A Christology that ignores Satan is crippled and will never understand the magnitude of redemption. We will now continue with Christ, the center of the universe. Everything was created for him and in view of his Coming, in the heavens angels and on earth the tangible world, man first of all.
It would be wonderful to speak only of Christ, but it would not be according to his every teaching and action, and we would never be able to understand him. Scripture talks to us about the kingdom of God but also of the kingdom of Satan. It tells us about the power of God, the Creator and Lord of the universe, but also of the power of darkness. It speaks of the sons of God and of the sons of Satan.
It is impossible to understand the salvific action of Christ if we ignore the destructive action of Satan. Satan was the most perfect being created by the hands of God. His God-given authority and superiority over the other angels are recognized by all, so he thought that he had the same authority over everything that God was creating.
Satan tried to understand all of creation but could not, because all the plan of creation was oriented toward Christ. Until Christ came into the world, God's plan could not be revealed in its entirety.
Hence Satan's rebellion. He wanted to continue to be the absolute first, the center of creation, even if it meant opposing God's design. This is why Satan continually tries to dominate the world "the whole world is in the power of the evil one", I Jn 5: Beginning with our forefathers, he seeks to enslave men by making them obey himself and disobey God.
He was successful with our forefathers, Adam and Eve, and he hoped to continue with all men with the help of "a third of the angels", who, according to the book of Revelation, followed him in rebellion against God. God never rejects his creatures. Therefore, even though they broke with God, Satan and his angels maintain their power and rank thrones, dominions, principalities, powers, and so on even if they use them for evil purposes.
Saint Augustine does not exaggerate when he claims that, if God gave Satan a free hand, "no man would be left alive. The truth of salvation is this: Jesus came "to destroy the works of the devil" I Jn , to free man from Satan's slavery, and to establish the kingdom of God after destroying the reign of Satan.
However, between the first coming of Christ and the Parousia the second, triumphal coming of Christ as judge , the devil tries to entice as many people as possible to his side.
It is a battle he wages with the desperation of one who knows he is already defeated, knowing "that his time is short" Rev Therefore, Paul tells us in all honesty that "we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" Eph Scripture tells us that angels and demons I want particularly to mention Satan are spiritual creatures but also that they are individuals gifted with intelligence, will, freedom, and initiative.
Those modern theologians who identify Satan with the abstract idea of evil are completely mistaken. Theirs is true heresy; that is, it is openly in contrast with the Bible, the Fathers, and the Magisterium of the Church. Thriller by B.

Experiencing the Spiritual Exercises of St. So, while I have trouble comprehending this evil, the evidence is clear throughout history, particularly the 20th century which saw the deaths of million or more at the hands of atheistic regimes. People try to say that more wars have been fought in the name of religion than for any other reason.
The 20th century gives lie to that claim. The evil one, in his evil lies, has led to more destruction, than God ever did. And he has done it by convincing people to deny God.
Atheists hate and destroy, not Christians who truly believe and follow the Word of God. Christ exorcised demons from people of His time, and Scripture even tells us of other exorcisms. Popular culture would have us believe that demons will just enter a person, or take over animals, etc. This book explains what the demons can and cannot do. And they are always incredibly brutal. It is painfully clear, after reading this book, that science can do nothing to stop the evil one. Amorth doesn't mince words when he describes not only successful exorcisms, but also failures and terrible mistakes that are made.
Sometimes, a victim is not liberated from the evil one. This is perhaps the most devastating fact in this book. Not everyone is freed from the evil one's influence. Most are, but often other factors figure in, including those who don't want to give up the vice that opened themselves up to exorcism, or because the spell, or hex, or curse has yet to be broken.
This is complicated and I cannot explain it all in this little and immediately poorly written review. I'm astonished at how difficult it is in finding the right words for this review and so I'll just move on to another part of this book.
Namely, Fr. Amorth has included some excellent prayers that are efficacious in deliverance that the ordinary lay person can use against the evil one.
I found a pamphlet online that has these exact prayers Fr. Amorth is given full credit in this pamphlet and have downloaded them to my Kindle.
Bottom line is this, demons exist, and they exist to ruin, to destroy and to claim as many into hell as they can. And they do a darn good job in convincing people they don't exist, which gives them an open field to hurt and maim as much as they can.
Disbelieve at your peril. Gabriele Amorth is known as the Vatican's Chief Exorcist. That is the greatest value of the book. It is also very persuasive. If you don't believe in the devil, if you've been brainwashed by propaganda into believing there is no such thing as good and evil, perhaps this book will change your mind. Certainly faith in Christ must also include belief in possession, since Christ himself engaged frequently in exorcism.
The Catholic Church rules out all possibility of mental or physiological causes before engaging in an exorcism which is only performed with the permission of the bishop and the case has to meet certain criteria that constitute evidence of demonic possession, such as speaking a language the possessed person does not know.
This is an engaging read and a valuable spiritual resource. Highly recommended. If you have been associated with evil people, this book will help improve those 5 areas for you.
