Community Reviews. Not only that, Morenstein's food-centric streaming video empire is now pulling in millions of dollars each year. In , Harley Morenstein and the Epic Meal Time crew made a million-calorie lasagna that featured over pounds of pork.
One video, for example, features the "Frankenpig," a bacon-wrapped, spaghetti-stuffed turkey that will haunt your arteries.
And that lasagna? It was made from pounds of pork, packages of bacon and eight wheels of brie. Between Epic Meal Time's advertising revenue from YouTube and Facebook, along with its other business ventures, including Super Snack Time and other branded merchandise, Morenstein says the business pulls in millions of dollars per year.
He also spent his spare time messing around with a video camera and picking up small gigs as a videographer. Morenstein harbored dreams of performing on camera, having gone to the occasional acting audition around Montreal, only to be told that his six-foot-six-inch, burly frame was best suited to play "a gigantic mutant," he jokes.
At the same time, Morenstein and his friends were watching a lot of amateur videos on YouTube where people like them were racking up millions of views doing everything from comedy skits to instructional videos. Morenstein brainstormed content ideas, including comedy skits. We also order about 2, t-shirts, and there are about 12 different shirts to choose from. We just started selling hats and hoodies now, too.
Another thing that Epic Meal Time is able to do is live shows. We did a tour of 13 Universities in Canada, each stop was an hour-long show. To different degrees, we usually ourselves ask how far can we push something We have our own Epic Meal Time products , like our whiskey-flavored personal lubricant. How is the revenue distributed amongst the crew?
I basically pay the crew as actors.
I have to pay for the kitchen rentals, travel expenses, promotion, equipment and maintenance. We break a lot of camera lenses, so that adds up.
What were some of the offscreen highlights for you? Lights had Tweeted about watching our videos for an hour and said she wanted to puke, so I sent her a message and we actually got something going there, as she was in Toronto. That was a lot of fun. Tony Hawk had blogged about us, so that was cool. We hang out in New York and LA quite a bit.
I remember meeting Adam Sandler when I was a bit younger and asking him for an autograph and picture.
I saw him again later on in life, which was again, a good interaction. I just want to high-five them and touch their hands. Which episode is your personal favorite? Our first episode was all pizza, the episode after that was something else sticking to our formula, and then we made a Thanksgiving special for our American audience.
